This is turning out to be a very different summer than usual for us...
We should have already been to a competition or two... We should have been on the road performing AxeWomen shows at several different venues across the country by now... Which also means that we should have been chopping and crosscut sawing at least four logs per day and getting a good amount of logrolling in!!
This has not happened, and it doesn't look like it's going to. So how are we going to stay in shape??
Yes... I do have logs I can chop, as well as all the chopping stands and axes... I have logrolling logs and, living near the ocean means I have plenty of water to roll in. And Mike and I do enjoy our after-dinner backyard axe throwing competitions!
But chopping in our yard isn't quite the same as chopping against other competitors in front of a cheering crowd...  Being a competitive person makes this season especially difficult...

...I've been excited to see some of the "virtual competitions" popping up online! You can actually axe throw right in your backyard and submit your video in order to compete!! Fun!
I've even entered a virtual logrolling competition! (Be watching our Facebook page for some fun videos over the next few weeks!!) It's a "trick" competition... which means logrolling while showing off a trick or skill!! You could hula-hoop, jump rope, dance... I've seen videos of a few of the other competitors playing musical instruments and solving a Rubik’s Cube while rolling!! I'm going to juggle... while logrolling... in the ocean! I'm super excited to make this work! Logrolling in the ocean is slightly more challenging than rolling in a lake, pond, or pool... You have to work around the tides - depending on your location a high tide could have you logrolling right up against ledges... and a low tide could have you walking out across nearly a quarter mile of mud-flats before you reach the water!! You also have sea-breezes that kick up most afternoons! Ocean rolling takes some planning!

Another staying-in-shape-hobby I've taken up just recently is jogging.... gasp! Anyone who knows me knows that I don't run... I haven't done anything close to running for 20 years, since I was on my high school track team. Even then I barely ran... I was a sprinter, a hurdler, and a pole vaulter. I rarely ran more than 200 meters at a time!
Mike has asked me several times over the past few years if I'd like to start jogging with him. I honestly just didn't think I could jog... I have asthma... running to the end of a short driveway nearly kills me! Maybe that's why timbersports was such a good fit... most events take less than 60 seconds!!
But - about 3 weeks ago I gave jogging a try. I really enjoyed it!! Mike and I have been jogging every other morning since then. I've been able to increase my distance and I really feel good after a jog! This will definitely be a hobby I stick with!
Right about the same time that I was considering trying jogging I was chosen to be an ambassador for a super cool athletic wear company! This company is from right here in Maine! I was already loving wearing their stuff for logrolling... but as an added bonus I also have super stylish jogging gear!!! If you are ever looking for great quality, fun and funky workout clothes definitely check out Spandits!

So, as much as I am enjoying my new hobby, I know that I won't be running a marathon anytime soon... But I have given myself a goal to run a 5K by this fall. I'll keep you all posted!

I've included a fun, after-work out smoothie recipe! Hope you like it!!

LumberJill strawberry & banana Smoothie
1 1/2 cup almond milk
1 cup sliced, ripe strawberries
1 large ripe banana (sliced)
Add ingredients to a blender, blend until smooth.
Enjoy!
